A rivet is a mechanical fastener or connector with the head and tail on opposite sides. It has a head, a smooth cylinder, and a tail that looks more like a metal needle.

Rivets are usually made of aluminum or steel, but some are made of other materials. These types of fasteners are not tightened like the usual bolts and nuts. The use of a unique rivet mounting method helps ensure permanent part assembly or connection.

The rivet is installed in a drill hole that is approximately 1.5 mm larger than the diameter of the rivet itself to better hold the rivet in place. Once the rivets are installed, the tail will come out the other end and deform there.

Solid rivets: The most common type of rivets. They are simple, reliable and the oldest form of connection material. These simple tools consist of a solid shaft that, once punched, will have a head on a specific side.

Blind rivets: Also known as hollow or pop rivets. These metal rivets are tubular fasteners with a mandrel in the center. The manufacturer inserts blind rivets into the drill holes on the parts for joining.

Hollow rivets: These rivets are made up of two parts and use an interference fit in the tightening process. Their commercial use is in soft materials that require aesthetics on both sides of the component.
